Organizing a shoot for your short or feature-length film is a complicated endeavor. However, it doesn’t get much simpler when you reach Post-Production. With the edit, grade, sound mix, music, VFX, legals, and deliverables all to worry about, there are a lot of moving parts to Post, with a lot of challenges to plan for and overcome.
Fortunately for you, The Cutting Room has teamed up with The Filmmakers’ Podcast to offer a comprehensive walk-through of the entire process. Back in 2023, our team of film professionals got together on Zoom to guide participants through all the elements you will need to plan, all the people you’ll need to hire, and all the questions you’ll need to answer in order to effectively schedule and budget for post-production.
Whether you’re planning your next short, heading towards your first feature, or stepping up onto a bigger budget project, Post-Production Demystified will provide you with the knowledge and understanding to ensure you make efficient use of your time and budget.
So what does the course include?
The course is built around three sessions run by our three tutors, all from slightly different perspectives based on their own roles. Across almost 5 hours of video presentations, we walk you through a whole range of knowledge you’ll need to plan your Post workflows so that as little time and money as possible is wasted.
Giles Alderson explores how he tackles Post as both a Director and a Producer, details the importance of having not just a plan but a vision too, how to prioritise story, how to deal with notes, how to problem-solve in the edit, and how to prepare to sell your film and yourself.
Post-Production Supervisor Shaheen Schleifer explains the role of the Post Super, explains how to break down the script for Post, how to build a dailies workflow, how to hire crew and facilities, and details all the paperwork you’ll need to collect and create ready to deliver alongside the finished film.
Finally, Editor Neil Lenthall discusses misconceptions about editing, the responsibilities of the Editor and Assistant Editor, the five stages of the edit, how to hire an Editor, how to be a good collaborator, and how to make the best use of your time in the edit.
On top of all that, you will also get a copy of our Post-Production Plan, which contains more than 70 questions you will need to answer in order to make the right decisions and build your own detailed to-do list for Post.
This will give you a comprehensive guide through each stage of Post, ensuring that you have spoken to the right people and asked all the right questions, and can be used for any project both current and future.
Is the course just for Producers and Directors?
